Liam Rosenior has explained why Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, Malo Gusto, Reece James and Cole Palmer are not in the Chelsea squad for tonight's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues and the Gunners go head-to-head at the Bridge as we look to take an advantage into the reverse fixture at the Emirates in February.
Speaking before the match, Rosenior gave supporters an update on the condition of five players, including Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto, with the Blues head coach hopeful the duo will be fit ahead of our tussle with Brentford on the weekend.
Rosenior said: ‘Reece James took a knock on his hip and wasn’t quite ready for this one. Unfortunately for Cole, who is an outstanding player, he should be available for Saturday, but he didn’t quite make it tonight.
‘Liam [Delap] was ill a few hours ago, Jamie [Gittens] also fell down with illness, Malo [Gusto] is hopefully [back] for Brentford. We've gone through the wars over the last couple of games, but at the same time, I still think we have more than enough to be competitive and win this game today.’
Despite the absentees, our head coach believes his side is prepared to take the game to the Premier League leaders.
He continued: ‘They are an outstanding team, were an outstanding team. Sometimes we talk about organisation and tactics, and they’re very important, but I want us to be fearless and play with energy, take the game forward and try to attack.’
