Liam Rosenior says the Blues are 'hoping and praying' that the injury Trevoh Chalobah sustained in the final minutes of our Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Paris Saint-Germain is not as bad as first feared.
It was a tough night for Chelsea as goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola and Senny Mayulu helped the reigning European champions record a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge and progress to the quarter-finals 8-2 on aggregate.
And our evening went from disappointing to concerning in the final ten minutes when a challenge from Achraf Hakimi left Chalobah in significant pain on the Stamford Bridge turf.
Our Academy graduate had to be carried off on a stretcher and when asked for an update, Rosenior said that more will be known after Chalobah undergoes a scan.
'I think he (Chalobah) was really worried,' said Rosenior after the game. 'I've just checked with the medical team, we'll obviously scan and assess him tomorrow. We are hoping and praying that it's not as bad as we first feared.'
The Blues were without several players against PSG, with Malo Gusto and Benoit Badiashile missing the game due to illness and Reece James sidelined.
When asked if there was an update on our skipper, who sustained a hamstring injury in the closing minutes of our Premier League clash with Newcastle on Saturday, Rosenior replied: 'Not yet. I'm waiting for the full results of his scan. And hopefully he's back sooner rather than later.'
