One of the most eye-catching head-to-head statistics leading into today's meeting between the Reds and the Blues is the unusual balance between home and away team victories in recent seasons.
In the past 17 Premier League games between Liverpool and Chelsea at our two stadiums, the home team has won just three of them.
The game at Stamford Bridge that ended in Blues smiles was in May 2018 when an Olivier Giroud header found the net.
The next season in Liverpool, goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah gave the Reds a 2-0 win and it was a much-more goal-filled affair at Anfield a year later when despite Giroud scoring again and goals from Tammy Abraham and Cristian Pulisic, the game ended in a 5-3 home win.
Seven of the 17 games have been draws, including the two most recent, and memorable Chelsea away wins in that time were in 2014 when we did much to torpedo a Liverpool title challenge with Demba Ba’s famous goal and a late second from Willian, and then followed that up with victory the next season when Gary Cahill and Diego Costa found the net.

Despite the away sides enjoying themselves an unusual amount in this fixture in recent years, both clubs of course enjoy deserved reputations for being strong at home. It was Liverpool’s 63-game unbeaten league run at home that Chelsea surpassed when we went on to eventually set a new record of 86 games in 2008. Liverpool have since established a new club-best of 68.
