Livia Peng may be just 23 years old but she has already experienced playing for clubs in four different countries. Now with a dream move to a fifth secured, the talented goalkeeper is excited to make Chelsea her home.

The 23-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Blues after impressing over two seasons as Werder Bremen’s first-choice stopper.

Peng, who grew up in Chur, Switzerland, has dreamed of moving to Chelsea since she was 10 years old and explained how she has long made sacrifices to achieve that goal.

‘I was at home with my parents until I was 13, then I moved out to join a football academy in another part of Switzerland,' she explained. 'It was three and a half hours away. I lived there during the week, then I went home at weekends, and my family supported me a lot. I learned fast to do my own thing.

‘It was cool because my aim was always to be a footballer - that was the only thing in my mind. Being away from home wasn’t hard for me because of my ambition and I wanted to do everything I could to reach it.

‘I love challenges, but I also like to feel at home. I’ve had a lot of experiences and seen different cultures, different people, different clubs, different languages. I’ve learned a lot but now I'm ready to enjoy being here.

‘It’s not always easy to move, but I try to be open, talk with people and adapt quickly. I think learning English will be a bit difficult at the beginning, but I'm learning and improving. I'm excited.’

Peng is arguably being harsh on herself as she already speaks excellent English and while she may not have lived on these shores before, she has visited several times.

She travelled to the North-West to play in a friendly with her former team BK Hacken and English stadiums shouldn’t phase her either, as she has already witnessed these at full capacity when she was part of the Switzerland squad for Euro 2022.

The goalkeeper has already begun the settling-in process, having spoken with Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor and will see a familiar face at training in ex-Levante team-mate Mayra Ramirez.

She said: ‘I played in a friendly against Everton in Liverpool. It was great because the level of English football clubs is so high, and I learned a lot.

‘I also have a lot of good memories from Euro 2022. It was special to play in my first tournament, and then to be in England, such a big football country, was crazy. The stadiums were sold out in every game and the atmosphere was amazing. It made me happy to see people coming to the stadium and having fun watching women’s football.

‘Sonia is ambitious, and I enjoyed speaking with her. I felt she's also like a mum in the way she cares about her players, and she wants everyone to feel safe. It’s important to me to be ambitious on the pitch, but also like a family off the pitch, so it’s great.

‘Mayra was my team-mate for six months at Levante. She's such a nice person, on and off the pitch. She has a big heart, so I'm happy to see her again.’

As a goalkeeper, Peng progressed quickly to secure a spot as Werder Bremen’s number one. There, she has impressed with penalty saves, the length of her goal kicks, and cutting out crosses.

She’s ambitious and ready to embed herself into the culture at Chelsea, not to mention meeting our fans.

‘I would say I'm an active goalkeeper,’ she continued. ‘I try to give options to the defenders or midfielders as much as possible. I'm good in 1v1 situations. I also try to enjoy the game. I love being in the game and moving around rather than standing still.

‘My personal goal is to adapt to the team quickly, to try to get to know everybody and have fun and be happy on the pitch. Then, of course, it’s about winning titles. I'm ambitious and want to win every game.

‘I’m excited about everything. I'm looking forward to meeting the team, the staff, and everyone at the club. The support here is so big, I can’t wait to play at Stamford Bridge.

‘I'm excited to meet the fans at the stadium. I’ve heard so many good things about them. I'm looking forward to seeing what the Chelsea family is like. I want to feel their passion and support.’

Our fans, players and staff will have no problem showing Livia what the Chelsea family is all about.
