Chelsea Academy graduate Lola Brown netted in our 5-3 win over London City Lionesses at the World Sevens tournament, having recently returned from a season-long loan at Crystal Palace, and explained how she’s delighted to be back among the first-team squad.

The 18-year-old made her Blues debut in 2024/25 when she came off the bench against Celtic in the Women’s Champions League group stage and made her bow in the Women’s Super League when she came on in the 78th minute against Tottenham Hotspur in May.

Since then, she has gained valuable experience with the Eagles as they earned promotion back to the top flight, and is finishing the season on a high at the World Sevens.

We secured our place in Saturday’s semi-final after that win over London City, having won all three of our games at the tournament so far. Brown was joined on the scoresheet in Friday’s victory by Sandy Baltimore, Keira Walsh, Aggie Beever-Jones and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, and she explained why the World Sevens has been good for her.

‘The girls have welcomed me back really nicely,’ said Brown after the contest. ‘It’s been amazing being in with the group, back with friends, and just enjoying football.

‘It's great fun. All of us are really enjoying it, just playing together. You get a lot of touches on the ball because obviously it's seven-a-side.

‘I think the seven-second throw-in rule just quickens the game up and gets the ball back in play. It’s played at a fast tempo, but that's what makes it really enjoyable and really good to watch. The walkouts, the games - everything is so much fun.’

After delighting the crowds with some acrobatic walkouts on the first day, Friday's starting seven – which was comprised of Hannah Hampton, Brown, Sandy Baltimore, Veerle Buurman, Sjoeke Nusken, Lexi Potter and Alyssa Thompson against London City – had put together an impressive and entertaining bowling alley routine.

And when asked about the walkouts, Brown described how they have been put together behind the scenes.

‘It's a team effort,’ she said. We were practising them this morning. It’s loads of fun and really enjoyable.

‘It’ll be up to the squad to decide tonight (what they will do for Saturday’s games) and we will have a bit of fun with it.’
