Chelsea Women defender, Magdalena Eriksson, has been nominated among five other players for the PFA Bristol Street Motors WSL Fans’ Player of the Year award.
The Swedish player is regarded as one of the best defenders in the WSL and has been an integral part of Emma Hayes’ backline, having made the most appearances for the Blues this season. Our defence was the second meanest in the WSL, conceding just 14 goals in 20 games.
Although she is known for her defensive capabilities, Eriksson registered her name on the scoresheet twice throughout the 2018/19 WSL campaign, and one goal in particular was nominated for Chelsea’s Goal of the Season – her effort was spectacular, she teed herself up for an overhead kick which settled a game against Liverpool at Kingsmeadow.
Other nominees for the award are Arsenal duo Vivianne Miedema, who is the 2018/19 PFA Player’s Player of the Year and Danielle van de Donk. Sophie Baggaley of Bristol City and Manchester City midfielder Georgia Stanway are in the running, and so is Nikitta Parris, who recently announced her departure from City to join Lyon.
Voting is now open and will close on Wednesday 5 June at 8am.
