Chelsea forward Maika Hamano has been nominated for the AFC Asian International Player of the Year award.

The nomination recognises both the forward's performances for Chelsea and also on the international stage with Japan.

Hamano made 30 appearances for the Blues last season, scoring six goals and providing three assists on the way to our domestic Treble.

And the 21-year-old renewed her contract with Chelsea earlier this month, signing a deal that will keep her at the club until 2029.

Hamano showed early promise internationally and was awarded the Golden Ball as the best player at the 2022 Under-20 World Cup.

Since then, the forward has been capped 22 times with the Japan senior side and was included in the squad for the 2024 Olympics. In 2025, Japan won the SheBelievesCup with Hamano scoring twice on the way to lifting the trophy.

The award ceremony will take place at the King Fahad Cultural Center in Riyadh on October 18.
