Malo Gusto says he is ‘really enjoying’ working with Liam Rosenior and adapting to our new head coach’s demands of him.

The Frenchman played his first game under Rosenior in the 1-0 win over Pafos on Wednesday night. Injury and illness had ruled him out of the Charlton, Arsenal and Brentford matches earlier this month.

Against Pafos, it was noticeable how often Gusto stayed high and wide, with the full-back also inverting at points, as he regularly did under Enzo Maresca. Gusto explained that Rosenior instructed him to mix up his role.

‘He said to me to be a bit more free on the pitch, to change more my position during the game,’ revealed Gusto.

‘Sometimes I can go in the pocket, sometimes I can go wide, but it’s more or less the same way to play which is good because it means there haven’t been a lot of changes for us.

‘I like to attack, of course, that’s my type of game. I’m really enjoying playing this system and being more free. Now it’s a matter of keeping improving to help the team as much as possible.’

That was a message Gusto reiterated when asked how Rosenior has settled in, and what it has been like for the group working alongside him so far.

‘It’s a new era with new tactics and new things to improve,’ detailed Gusto.

‘Everyone here is happy to have him on the team so it is our job now to put everything together, to rebuild something as a team and perform as much as possible.’
