After 98 appearances in Blue, it’s fair to say Malo Gusto was pleased to end the wait for his first goal in Chelsea colours – but the full-back believes it’s only the beginning after he helped us on our way to a 3-0 victory over Wolves.

The Blues earned three points thanks to three second-half goals as we head into the November international break with a spring in our step, and it was Malo who broke the deadlock. Latching onto Alejandro Garnacho’s lopping cross, heading the ball past the onrushing Wolves goalkeeper, the defender showed striker's intent, wheeling away to celebrate with the Matthew Harding Lower.

Elsewhere, Joao Pedro doubled our advantage with his second in as many games, while Pedro Neto wrapped up the result, tapping home from close range to send the Blues supporters home content. And Malo was delighted to open his goalscoring account for the club as we move up to second in the Premier League standings.

‘It’s been a long time since I came here, and this is only the beginning,’ Malo said of his goal. ‘I’m very proud. I’ve been waiting for this one! I’m very happy for me, my family and the fans.

‘It was a big win. The performance was really important for us before the international break, and we are here for the top four – that is our objective – and we will keep going and keep fighting.

‘For my goal, it was our plan to bring players into the box. It was the key, we showed that today, and I’m very happy for the team.’

After a difficult first 45 minutes, Malo admitted that the Blues need to find more intensity after the interval, and he was happy to provide the impetus we were looking for.

He continued: ‘In the first half, we struggled a lot to find space between the lines, but in the second half we were much better. The manager said at half-time to be patient, the chance will arrive, and we found our players much easier, and I think that’s how we scored the first goal.’

Although the international break separates us and our next match, Burnley at Turf Moor, the full-back recognises how important momentum will be heading into this busy part of the schedule.

Gusto added: ‘We won our last Premier League game against Tottenham, which was important, and now against Wolves, it was a tough game, but we got the job done tonight, so let’s keep pushing.

‘We have to keep building something between us as a group.’
