Malo Gusto is next to sit in the Football Firsts chair, as we ask Chelsea players about maiden experiences in football...
The first kit you owned was… a Juventus kit. There wasn’t a player on the back or anything like that. The first player I had on the back of my kit was Gareth Bale on a Real Madrid kit!
Your first team was… Villefontaine, my local team.
Your first coach was… one of my first coaches at Villefontaine. His name was Leon. He was one of my first coaches and I have many memories of him.
The first piece of advice that you remember was... from him and he would tell me to always give my best. I had a lot of energy and he would tell me to put that energy onto the pitch.
Your first friend in football was…well when I started to play for a professional team at Lyon, there were a few. One was a goalkeeper, Kayne Bonnevie (now at US Quevilly-Rouen), and another was Castello Lukeba, who is now at RB Leipzig. Also, Bradley Barcola, who is at PSG.
The first team-mate you roomed with was… the French-speaking players when I joined Chelsea.
Your first-team debut was against…Strasbourg [for Lyon] and my first game for Chelsea was against Liverpool, so I definitely remember that!
The first time I was recognised in public was… when I started to play for Lyon. I was going into the city with my guys and a few people came over to ask for a photo. It was strange at first but now it is part of the job.
Your first emotion after signing for Chelsea was… pride. I was proud of myself, I was proud to see my parents’ pride, and there was a lot of happiness. They are good memories.
