Malo Gusto felt the Blues were good value for our point against Arsenal and the personality displayed in the performance bodes well for the future.
Having played for an hour of a fiercely contested London derby with ten men, it would have been easy for Chelsea to buckle against the league leaders. Instead, the complete opposite happened, with the Blues matching Arsenal in every department and deservedly earning a draw.
It was an outstanding collective effort in the circumstances, leaving Gusto satisfied with what he had been a part of.
‘It was a good point and an important point to show we can compete in this type of game,’ said the Frenchman.
‘The teamwork was incredible. With ten against 11 it was a bit tough for us, but we dealt with it and showed even with ten players we can compete. That is what we did and I am proud of the team.
‘Arsenal are the best team at the moment but we showed we are as a great team as well. There was a lot of intensity. We had to show we had more desire. There are things we have to improve still, and we will do this for the next game.’
The next challenge is not far away. We travel to play Leeds United on Wednesday evening before another away game, at Bournemouth, this weekend.
With a packed December schedule ahead, Gusto knows the value of staying grounded and not looking too far ahead.
‘We don’t put pressure on ourselves, we just take it game after game,’ said the 22-year-old.
‘We want to show our best every time. We are where we are because we deserve to be there, and the season is long.
‘It’s our job to keep going in this way, keep improving and keep doing our best every game.’
