Chelsea's opening weekend record

Chelsea have only lost one (Burnley at home in 2017) of our last 20 opening weekend fixtures in the Premier League (16 wins, three draws). Our previous opening day defeat was at Highfield Road against Coventry in 1998.

Man United (18) and Chelsea (17) have won more opening weekend fixtures than any other side in the Premier League.

Chelsea and Manchester United lock horns on the opening weekend for the fifth occasion. The most recent at Stamford Bridge in 2004 was Jose Mourinho’s first match in charge of the Blues when Eidur Gudjohnsen scored the only goal. The other three were all at Old Trafford in the fifties - 1952 (lost 0-2), 1953 (drew 1-1) and 1958 (lost 2-5).

Frank Lampard’s playing record against United for the Blues was 11 wins, 10 draws and 10 defeats.

Lampard has a 100 per cent success rate as a manager at Old Trafford when he won there on a penalty shoot-out with Derby in last season’s Carabao Cup.
