Chelsea Women travel to fellow title challengers Manchester United for an eagerly-awaited heavyweight clash in the Women’s Super League at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday.

The Blues enjoyed an excellent October, recording three consecutive league victories against Everton, Brighton and Aston Villa during the month, two of which came away from home as we navigated a hectic fixture schedule with aplomb.

Our most recent league outing saw us overcome Aston Villa 3-1 at Kingsmeadow last weekend. Lauren James scored twice before assisting Sam Kerr for the third goal, putting the game to bed and securing a vital three points to maintain our title challenge.

On Sunday, we make the long trip north to face Marc Skinner’s in-form Manchester United side who boast a 100% record in the league this season, having taken maximum points from their five WSL matches to date.

This match will be our last before the players head off to represent their respective countries during the upcoming international break. Denise Reddy, Paul Green and the players will be looking to finish strongly before domestic duties are put on hold.

When and where?

We travel to face Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village in the Women’s Super League this Sunday 6 November, with kick-off scheduled for 6.45pm (UK time)

The form

During October, we extended our winning run to seven matches in all competitions, three of these coming in the WSL with hard-fought victories away to Everton and Brighton and a win on home turf against Aston Villa.

We occupy third place in the table with 15 points, having won five and lost one of our opening six league matches. During this time we have scored 14 goals, conceding five in the process leaving us with a goal difference of +9.

Our league form has been impressive, accumulating 14 wins from the last 15 Barclays Women’s Super League matches, with one defeat coming against newly-promoted Liverpool on the opening day of this season.

Manchester United have been strong so far this season and have a 100 per cent record with five wins from five matches in the league. Manager Marc Skinner is building a team who are looking to break into the top three in the table.

In their most recent league outing, United put on a clinical showing with a 3-0 win away to Everton. Goals from Nikita Parris, Leah Galton and Hayley Ladd maintained United’s winning start to the WSL season ahead our meeting on Sunday.

United have kept a clean sheet in all five Barclays WSL matches this season, only the second team to achieve that feat from the start of a season along with Manchester City in 2016, who kept a clean sheet in their first seven games.

Manchester United Women vs Chelsea Women recent head-to-head record

Our previous league meeting with Manchester United came on the final day of last season where a 4-2 victory at Kingsmeadow saw us clinch the WSL title in glorious conditions.

A brace from Sam Kerr was added to by goals from Erin Cuthbert and Guro Reiten as we wrapped up the league title in front our supporters.

In the reverse league fixture away from home, we recorded an emphatic 6-1 victory and inflicted United’s heaviest defeat in the WSL in the process.

Kerr scored twice while Fran Kirby, Pernille Harder, Drew Spence and Jessie Fleming also got in on the scoring act at Leigh Sports Village.

Next up for the Blues

Domestic duties are placed on hold momentarily with the players heading off to represent their respective nations during the international break.

We return to WSL action with the eagerly-anticipated London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Sunday 20 November, with kick-off scheduled for 1pm (UK time)
