Mara Alber says she cannot wait to experience the ‘goosebump moment’ of playing at Stamford Bridge and in some of England’s other leading stadiums after joining Chelsea.

The 19-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Blues, having established herself as one of Germany’s most exciting talents during her time at Hoffenheim.

And the versatile forward can’t wait to show English football fans what she is capable of.

‘I would watch WSL games sometimes when I had the chance to, especially after the interest from Chelsea became clear,’ Alber said.

‘The WSL looks like a physical league where the action goes from end-to-end and I think it will be really fun to play in the WSL. It seems like a really cool league.

‘Having the chance to play in such big games with big attendances will be really special. They will be goosebump moments which I know I will never forget.’

Alber will be moving to England on her own but explained her family will be visiting when they can.

‘It will be my first time living abroad,’ Alber explained. ‘I am from a really small village in Germany so to be moving to a big city like London and to the UK is really special.

‘There will be a lot of new things, but I am really excited about it and I know I am ready.’

Alber made her Bundesliga debut at the age of just 16 in April 2022. A month later she finished as joint top goalscorer when Germany lifted the Under-17 Euros and she was named the third-best player at the Under-17 World Cup before the year was out.

Six more Bundesliga appearances and a silver medal at the 2023 Under-19 Euros arrived in the following year before 2023/24 saw her place as one of German football’s most exciting talents reiterated further when she became a regular for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.

Injury halted her progress somewhat this year but unsurprisingly the Blues have been following Alber’s progress for several years and have now managed to secure her services.

Alber described joining Chelsea as ‘a really special moment’ and hopes over time she can become a Blues regular.

The 19-year-old also has one eye on securing a first senior call-up, adding: ‘One of my goals is to progress to the Germany team.

‘It is always special to hear the national anthem and stepping on the pitch to represent Germany’s youth teams.

‘Every youth appearance I made for Germany was really special and I always enjoy it so I hope moving to Chelsea will help with my goal of reaching the senior Germany team and hopefully the head coach will be watching my matches for the club.’

And Alber’s aim of making a big impact in Blue can only be boosted by the presence of our current German international, Sjoeke Nusken

‘I am really looking forward to working with her; it is good to have another German in the squad,’ the Germany Under-23 international said. ‘It should help me settle and make that adaptation period easier for me.

‘I haven’t met her yet because she plays for the senior national team but I’ve heard she is really nice so I am looking forward to meeting her.’

Time will ultimately tell how big an impact Alber can make in Blue but one thing is for sure, it won’t be down to a lack of effort or desire.

She said: ‘I am a player who has worked really hard up until this point and I am someone who always gives 100 per cent every day in training and in every match I play. I just love football so much and I am really happy to have this opportunity.’
