After making his full Chelsea debut at the weekend, Marco Palestra shares his earliest memories and experiences in football.
The Italian full-back had to wait to make his first start for the Blues, in Saturday's 2-0 win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, following his summer move from Atalanta, and now he answers our quickfire questions so you can get to know him a little better...
What was the first football match you went to?
The first match that I remember that I went to see was Atalanta against Palermo in Bergamo. Atalanta lost 1-0, I remember, and I had just joined Atalanta. I was 10 years old, I think.
What was the first football kit you owned?
I think one of my first jerseys that I had was one of Ronaldinho, a Brazil shirt. I remember that one.
What was the first team you played for?
The first team I played for was Assago, which is near where I was born. I played there for four years, it was a good time.
Who was the first coach who gave you important advice?
I can’t remember any specific advice but maybe when I was a bit older, like 16, our coach that changed my position. His name is Marco Fioretto. So he was the first one who moved me from midfield to out wide and he maybe changed my career.
Who was your first team-mate who became a friend?
I have one of my best friends, his name is Filippo Bonvento. I met him when I started playing at Assago when I was about four years old, and now he is still my best friend. So for sure him.
Who was your first professional game against?
My debut in professional football isn’t good, because I got a red card. I played for Atalanta Under-23s in the third league, Serie C, and I remember it was a difficult game and I got a red card, so it’s maybe not the best debut. I probably deserved it, it was two yellows because I made two fouls, but I didn’t have any experience at the time.
Who was your first goal against?
I will always remember my first goal. Again, it was for Atalanta Under-23s in the third league. It was against Albinoleffe, who are local rivals in Bergamo. The game finished 1-1, and I scored the first goal with a header.
Can you remember the first time somebody recognised you in public?
I don’t know. I think it would have been in Bergamo when I started to play in the third league with the Under-23s, probably around the city one guy recognised me.
What was your first emotion when you signed for Chelsea?
I was just happy because when I was young I never thought I could be a Chelsea player. So the first emotion was only happiness. Now I am still happy, but I need to improve myself to win with this team.
