Maren Mjelde was the match winner as Chelsea Women earned a place in the Continental Tyres League Cup final and the Norwegian believes the current Blues squad is the best she has ever been a part of.

Mjelde started in the uncommon position of right wing in Wednesday’s semi-final and Emma Hayes’ decision to field the experienced player in a more advanced role paid off, when the Norwegian captain netted a late winner to send us to our first ever Continental Cup final.

A player who has spent most of the season at right-back, Mjelde, latched onto a clever ball from Erin Cuthbert and took two quick touches before firing past the United keeper from a tight angle to snatch the victory.

Speaking after the game, the 30-year-old revealed that her current team-mates are the best she has ever played with.

‘I have never been in a team like this,’ she said. ‘There is quality in every position and we push each other every day. Even though teams are pushing us and pressing us, we are still finding a way to win.

‘That’s a strong mentality and that’s something that we will be building all the time.’

All eyes turn back to the league as we face West Ham United at Kingsmeadow on Sunday afternoon and with a quick turnaround in fixtures, it's key Chelsea are rested and recovered ahead of the London derby.

With joint league leaders Manchester City and Arsenal meeting on Sunday, it could prove to be a pivotal weekend in the title race, but Mjelde insists Chelsea will focus on ourselves and not the teams above us.

‘It’s going to be tough for Arsenal and Manchester City playing each other on Wednesday and then again on Sunday,’ Mjelde stated.

‘But we need to focus on what we are doing, that starts against West Ham on Sunday and so we need to make sure we recover well.’

Tickets are still available to buy for Sunday’s game. They are priced at £1 for juniors (under-20) and seniors (over-65) and £9 for adults.
