Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has explained why Robert Sanchez and Christopher Nkunku have not travelled to Sweden for our UEFA Conference League semi-final with Djurgarden,
The Blues flew out to Stockholm this afternoon ahead of the first leg of our semi-final as the Blues look to become the first club in history to win all of UEFA's major European trophies.
Romeo Lavia is among those who have not travelled as he was left out of our Conference League squad to manage his workload following a long-term injury last season.
And Maresca explained during his pre-match press conference why Sanchez and Nkunku also remained at Cobham.
Maresca said: ‘Robert has a small problem after a knock against Everton and Christo had something similar in our session.’
When asked further about Nkunku, the Italian added: 'It has just happened so we will have more news probably on Friday when we are back.'
Chelsea's 23-player squad has a great blend of youth and experience. Dressing room leaders like like Reece James, Enzo Fernandez and Tosin Adarabioyo have travelled out alongside several Academy graduates - nine in total - with the likes of first-teamers Josh Acheampong, Lucas Bergstrom and Tyrique George joined by England Under-19 goalkeeper Ted Curd, 16-year-old midfielder Reggie Walsh and 17-year-old striker Shim Mheuka.
Djurgarden have only recently started their domestic campaign and are currently 11th in the table, having played one game less than most of the teams above them, with two victories and a draw from their five matches thus far.
But our hosts beat the likes of Panathinaikos to finish fifth in the league phase of the Conference League before dispatching with Pafos and SK Rapid in the knockout stages - becoming the first Swedish club to reach a major European semi-final in 38 years.
Maresca revealed he has watched six of their games since we beat Everton on Saturday so is prepared for the challenge that lies in wait in Stockholm.
He said: 'It is a nice moment and a nice game – it is a semi-final where we have the chance to reach a final. Since we started, we have said about going step by step and now we are going to try to reach the final.'
Westview tickets for the home leg of this UEFA Conference League semi-final are on sale for £60pp, available exclusively to CFC Members. Hospitality packages are available on general sale here, starting from £160pp.
