Chelsea have a number of options on the left wing following the acquisitions of Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens, and Enzo Maresca expects the two summer signings to keep improving with every game in blue.
Garnacho made his second start for the club last night during our 1-0 victory over Benfica, having also been in the XI during our League Cup win over Lincoln.
The ex-Manchester United man made an immediate impact, with his volleyed cross leading to Richard Rios' decisive own-goal after 18 minutes, in what was his fourth appearance for the Blues.
He was then replaced around the hour mark by Gittens and whilst the 21-year-old's final action around the opposition box often didn't come off, the former Borussia Dortmund youngster showed plenty of intent and desire to run at his full-back - something Maresca demands of his wingers.
When asked if he had been impressed with Garnacho's performance during his post-match press conference, Maresca replied: 'Yes, tonight we start with Garna, that probably was the first [Champions League or Premier League] game that he started. Ty [George] was the No.9, and we know that he's not a No.9. Facu [Buonanotte] played an important role tonight. That's why for me tonight it's a nice feeling that it was important to win for different reasons. Injuries and the players that they are new with us.
'Garna was very good. I think [Jamie] Gittens also, he tried in the last 20 minutes when he was on. Both are going to be better and better game after game.'
