There has never been a club tournament quite like the one Chelsea will try to win on Sunday.

The 2025 Club World Cup has brought an international feel to proceedings, with teams playing every few days, the next opposition and location far from certain, and extreme weather taking its toll. It is why Enzo Maresca has had to make full use of his Blues squad. They have rewarded him in kind.

Our head coach has given minutes to every outfield player at his disposal, including new signing Joao Pedro who bagged two brilliant goals against his former club Fluminense on Tuesday. In total, 27 players have featured for us at this tournament, and all have helped the cause.

'Playing every three days in this competition, you need a big squad, you need all the players,’ stressed Maresca.

‘But also they have to be ready, and they have to show they are good players, that we can count on them, and how professional they are. It is something that we also need for the future.'

Our excellent finish to the regular season has carried over into this tournament, where we have navigated the group stage and then beaten Benfica, Palmeiras and Fluminense to reach Sunday’s showpiece. Maresca says Chelsea are returning to our rightful standing.

'The last few years have not been what the club deserves or what the history of this club says. This year, luckily, has gone quite well,' he said.

‘We have finished top four and qualified for the Champions League. In the Conference League, we managed to win it, and now we are in this final. We are very proud to help the club get back to where it deserves to be.'
