Fresh from being named the Premier League Manager of the Month for November, Enzo Maresca has spoken about our beginning to December and why this period will not define Chelsea’s season.

The Blues were near faultless last month, dropping points only in the Arsenal game when we secured a creditable draw with ten men. Earlier today, Maresca was deservedly recognised for steering us to ten points out of a possible 12.

However, the final month of the year has not begun well with defeats away to Leeds and Atalanta and a draw at Bournemouth in between. At his press conference today, Maresca was asked what had changed between then and now.

‘November was fantastic and we did the right things in terms of performance and results,’ he said.

‘December we didn’t start in the way we like, even if it’s just over one week ago we played Leeds. We didn’t get the results we expected but it’s football. It’s completely normal.

‘Most of the time we are looking for problems or things we need to solve, but the Leeds game was last Wednesday, nine days ago. Nine days are not going to change our season because we didn’t get the points we expected. I’m completely relaxed because I’m sure at the end of the season we are going to be where we have to be.’

Maresca did acknowledge the past three games have shown up several areas where his team can still progress, and must do so if we are to not repeat this run of indifferent form.

‘Bournemouth away we drew, Leeds away was a bad day for all of us, Atalanta we were winning, we were okay, and we conceded a goal when they had one player inside the box and we had seven. It was a big mistake and they are things we need to improve.

‘It’s just one week, it’s not a long time, but for sure when something happens the next time you can be more prepared. As a human being it’s impossible to be all season at the same level, but we need to learn things and avoid that in the future.’
