Enzo Maresca wants to see the winning mentality his Chelsea team have forged this year continue when we travel to play Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

The Blues have already lifted the Conference League and the Club World Cup in 2025, and victory in South Wales tomorrow evening will secure a two-legged semi-final in the new year.

Maresca is taking nothing for granted. The League One leaders are full of attacking quality and will be backed by a sold-out home support that Chelsea know from past experience can create a fantastic atmosphere.

‘Football is full of these kind of games where the favourite one, they can lose and they can drop out,’ said Maresca.

‘These are the worst games for this reason. That's why we need to pay attention. It can be the third semi-final in 18 months, and it's something important.

‘To have the winning mentality, you need to win games. Otherwise the players don't believe you. Since day one, we are trying to win games, and tomorrow is another chance to be there in another semi-final, no matter the competition. It’s an important moment for the players, for the fans, for the club, for everyone.’

Maresca is optimistic the strides forward his side have taken this year bode well for what lies ahead. Winning more silverware in 2026 is the target.

‘We are in the right direction, knowing that there are some moments where we drop some points.

‘For me personally, it's part of the journey. But for sure, I have the feeling that we are getting better and better.’
