Enzo Maresca has confirmed both Robert Sanchez and Christopher Nkunku will be assessed ahead of Liverpool’s visit to Stamford Bridge.

The duo missed our Conference League semi-final first leg victory over Djurgarden in Sweden, with the pair staying in London for treatment on small knocks.

However, Maresca hopes to have both players available when Arne Slot’s side – who have already wrapped up the Premier League title – visit on Sunday for a huge clash at 4.30pm.

Elsewhere, our Italian head coach has confirmed he has no other fresh injury concerns and that Marc Guiu and Aaron Anselmino remain the only two players ruled out.

‘At the moment, just Marc Guiu and (Aaron) Anselmino are out,’ Maresca said ahead of Sunday’s clash. ‘Christo Nkunku has a small problem.

‘When we get back to Cobham, the medical staff will tell me how he is and what his status is. He wasn’t with us in Sweden.

‘It is exactly the same for Robert Sanchez too, although he is working on the pitch so compared to Christo, he is a better situation. He wasn’t with us in Sweden either and we will see and assess them both before Sunday.’

With Liverpool securing the title last weekend with victory over Tottenham, they head into Sunday’s game in a mood of celebration.

Maresca dismissed the idea that this was a ‘good’ time to play the champions, pointing out the strengths the Reds have, but feels we can go into the game with confidence following our fine run of recent results.

With points still up for grabs in the race for Champions League football, the head coach is hoping his side can secure a big victory and use that as a springboard for eventually bridging the gap to Liverpool going forward.

‘It’s always nice to play in this kind of game, but I don’t think they [Liverpool] will be any different or relaxed because they have already won the title,’ added Enzo.

‘They are a very good team and deserved to win the Premier League this season. The gap is there, you can see clearly. My feeling is we are in the right direction and hopefully this gap can be smaller and closer next season.

‘Perhaps the difference [between the sides] is that they have probably been a lot more consistent compared to us over the entire season.

‘For parts of the season, we were very good. Then we lost some games and this is the main reason why. Liverpool did not lose many games in these periods.

‘Also, in terms of experienced players who know how to win games and these kind of things, they have something more compared to us.’
