On Wednesday afternoon a pair of Chelsea players handed out presents to children spending the holiday season on a hospital ward, with the aim of spreading some festive cheer.

Fresh from scoring against Bournemouth yesterday, Mason Mount was joined by goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli in talking to the young patients and giving the gifts at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Wing, St Mary's Hospital in central London.

Included in the Chelsea goody bags were annuals, scarves and stationery sets, and having met the players, there might even be some new Blues fans in town!

Unfortunately, Covid and ‘flu have ruled out large-scale squad visits at this time but Mason and Marcus were able follow on from Kai Havertz’s trip to the hospital before Christmas.

At St Mary’s, Mason said, ‘It’s been great to put a smile on the faces of the families and wonderful staff here today.’

Marcus added, ‘To be able to give something back to the local community at this time of year means a lot to all of us and these visits are always a very touching experience.’
