It wasn't an easy afternoon's work for Chelsea against Leeds United, but the Blues got the job done at Wembley to claim a place in the FA Cup final.
Given the animosity between the two clubs – forged in the FA Cup more than 50 years ago – the semi-final tie was never likely to be a game for the football purists.
There were several big and ultimately decisive moments scattered across the 90 minutes, though. The first came early when Robert Sanchez produced a fine reaction stop to deny Brenden Aaronson scoring an opener for Leeds.
The second was what proved the winning goal. After the Blues reclaimed possession in the Leeds half, Pedro Neto scampered away and crossed for Enzo Fernandez to plant a header beyond Lucas Perri.
In the second period, Sanchez was again called into action. The Spaniard reacted brilliantly to push a powerful drive from Anton Stach over the crossbar. He then positioned himself well to claim a header from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The Blues controlled the game expertly as it drifted toward its conclusion, with Leeds unable to maintain pressure on the Chelsea goal. That ensured we recorded a clean sheet, secured victory, and booked our place in the final next month, where Manchester City lie in wait.
