Trips to the Gtech Community Stadium have rarely been easy for the Blues since Brentford's promotion to the Premier League in 2021. And, unfortunately, that was again the case this evening.
For 45 minutes at the home of our west London neighbours, Xabi Alonso's side had control. We had restricted the Bees to very little and had created a couple of chances of our own.
Yet in the second period, it went wrong for the Blues. Jaidon Anthony scored a close-range header, Igor Thiago converted and Fabio Carvalho netted in stoppage time.
The defeat was a painful one, and will have to be digested by Alonso and his players over the three-week international break.
