The first week of the season couldn't have gone much better for Xabi Alonso's side, as the Blues recorded our third consecutive victory by defeating Brighton and Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge.

After beating Fulham in our Premier League opener and overcoming Luton Town in the Carabao Cup second round, we welcomed Brighton to Stamford Bridge this afternoon, looking to make it three wins from three matches.

We made the perfect start as Romeo Lavia netted inside four minutes. Pedro Neto and Joao Pedro then struck to put the Blues in command at the break, despite Malick Yalcouye pulling a goal back for the visitors.

An own goal from Joao Pedro gave Brighton hope in the second period, but Cole Palmer produced a trademark finish from distance to ensure Alonso's side would claim the points. Pascal Gross' late header proved nothing but a consolation in a 4-3 defeat for the Seagulls.

We have pulled together the standout images from this afternoon's game, which was preceded by a touching tribute to Bobby Tambling and Ken Bates, both of whom passed away over the summer.
