A dominant first-half performance, which included a Joao Pedro goal, ultimately went unrewarded for the Blues as a brace from substitute Ollie Watkins helped Aston Villa seal victory at Stamford Bridge.

In front of a crowd that included Kenyan darts sensation David 'Why not?' Munyua and actor Callum Turner, the Blues started strongly and fashioned several chances to break the deadlock. Cole Palmer was denied by Emi Martinez, as was Joao Pedro.

The Brazilian did manage to open the scoring seven minutes before the interval, though, as he got the faintest of touches to divert a Reece James corner into the net.

Villa hadn't registered a single shot in the first half; it was a different story in the second. Unai Emery's side fired eleven at Robert Sanchez's goal and two of them, both from Watkins, ended in the net to extend Villa's winning run to eleven matches in all competitions.
