The Blues were always going to have to work hard to come away from Napoli with all three points and a place in the Champions League Round of 16 secured. Yet a fine second half, which included a Joao Pedro brace, ensured it was a case of mission accomplished.
When Liam Rosenior and his squad touched down in Naples on Tuesday evening, they knew a win would all but guarantee a place in the Round of 16. Anything else would likely mean a place in the knockout phase play-offs.
Napoli, in contrast, needed to win to keep their European campaign alive and, having fallen behind to an Enzo Fernandez penalty, the hosts rallied and levelled through Antonio Vergara before establishing a half-time lead after Rasmus Hojlund struck.
However, Rosenior's side responded in the second half. Joao Pedro netted just after the half-hour mark with an excellent goal from 20 yards before the Brazilian then netted late on to complete his brace and seal an impressive win for Rosenior's side.
Our victory clinched a Round of 16 spot and ensured two fewer matches for the Blues in what is already a busy fixture schedule for Rosenior and his players.
