Aggie Beever-Jones stole the show with a hat-trick as Chelsea beat AC Milan 4-1 at Kingsmeadow in our final pre-season friendly of the summer.

Sonia Bompastor fielded Women's Euro 2025 winners Hannah Hampton, Keira Walsh and Beever-Jones, as well as Mayra Ramirez, who had returned to Chelsea after coming runner-up in the Copa America Femenina with Colombia this summer.

We took the lead with just over a quarter of an hour gone, as Beever-Jones showcased her razor-sharp instincts with a well-placed finish. While we had plenty of possession in the first half, Milan were happy to play on the break, and levelled through a curled effort from inside the box.

It seemed the two sides would go in all square at the break, but Beever-Jones had other ideas. She produced a cool finish in first-half stoppage time after Maika Hamano picked her out perfectly with an astute pass.

The England forward had the ball in the back of the net for the third time shortly after the interval, but that strike was ruled out for offside. Yet she completed her hat-trick with just over an hour gone to put the Blues firmly in control against our Italian opponents.

There was one more to come, though, as, with just five minutes of normal time remaining, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd completed what had been an encouraging pre-season display for the Blues, making no mistake with her finish after having pounced on a loose ball.

Visitors cause danger

It was Rytting Kaneryd who fashioned the first opportunity of the game, speeding down the right wing and cutting inside slightly to deliver a dangerous ball across the box. Sjoeke Nusken did well to make contact with her head, but couldn't get any real direction on her attempt.

Milan were undeterred by our bright start. Ellie Carpenter was forced to put the ball out for a corner under pressure, and Hannah Hampton punched out the resulting shot clear of danger.

It was our turn to go on the attack when a slick passage of play initiated by Carpenter saw Nusken pick out Aggie Beever-Jones with a raking pass from midfield. If Milan goalkeeper Laura Giuliani hadn't got down quickly to smother the ball, the England forward could've easily got herself on the scoresheet.

The breakthrough

Just a couple of minutes later, Beever-Jones did just that. The cross came in from Rytting Kaneryd on the right, and after a big deflection, the striker was in the ideal position to tap home and put the Blues in front.

We turned on our press straight away following the goal, allowing Hamano to intercept the ball and play a one-two with the goalscorer, forcing a good save from Giuliani.

Hamano was looking lively and almost scored directly from a corner with just over 20 minutes gone, hitting the underside of the crossbar with her set piece.

Milan hit back

The Rossonere were struggling to get out of their own half at this point, but when they managed to get forward on the break, they took their opportunity and equalised thanks to a curling shot from Evelyn Ijeh.

Rytting Kaneryd was causing Milan all kinds of problems down the flank as the first half drew to a close, forcing the opposition to concede corners twice in quick succession with her dangerous crosses.

Beever-Jones strikes again

As the first half ticked deep into stoppage time, Chelsea regained the lead. Hamano picked out Beever-Jones with a clever pass, and the forward finished with a low shot to see the Blues 2-1 up at half-time.

After the break, Hamano and Beever-Jones linked up once again. The Japanese star played in Beever-Jones inside the box, and the striker curled the ball into the back of the net, but before she could celebrate a hat-trick, the referee had ruled the goal out for offside.

At this point, it seemed like nothing could stop Beever-Jones. With just over an hour gone, Milan attempted to play the ball out from the back. Walsh pounced on a loose pass and threaded it through to the striker, who calmly finished beyond Giuliani. She had her hat-trick for real, this time.

The Rossonere fell foul of their tactic for a second time when we put a stop to their passing from a goal kick, and a deflected ball forward from Hamano fell to Rytting Kaneryd, who beat her defender and slammed home the finish to put us out of sight.
