Our unbeaten record in the Women's Super League this season was extended to 21 matches with a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

This was a chance not only to hand those who had played heavy minutes recently a complete rest, but also to allow others an opportunity to play.

Mia Fishel continued her reintroduction into the side at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following a lengthy injury lay-off as she completed 45 minutes of action after being named in the starting XI.

Naomi Girma also played the final 27 minutes, after she had sat out the second leg against Barcelona and the title-winning match against Manchester United in midweek, while 17-year-old Lola Brown was brought on as a substitute.

We opened the scoring with 35 minutes gone and it proved to be enough, with Catarina Macario converting a well-struck penalty.

Bompastor made wholesale changes to her starting line-up after clinching the league title on Wednesday night at Manchester United, with experienced duo Millie Bright and Lucy Bronze not in the squad for the trip to Tottenham.

The Blues entered the pitch ahead of kick-off to a guard of honour from Tottenham, in recognition of our achievement of winning this season's Women's Super League.

The home side were keen to threaten the rotated central defensive partnership of Maelys Mpome and Sjoeke Nusken, and had the best of the chances in the opening half an hour.

Ex-Blue Bethany England had a chance to open the scoring early on, and Erin Cuthbert made a crucial block from Olivia Holdt.

Cat strikes from the spot

Yet it was Chelsea who made the breakthrough when Macario was upended in a crowd of defenders inside the box and referee Melissa Burgin immediately pointed to the spot. The striker hit the spot-kick high and to the left, making no mistake in giving us the advantage after 35 minutes.

It wouldn't be all plain sailing from there on in for the Blues though, as Charlotte Grant found herself one-on-one with Hampton, as the goalkeeper pulled off an excellent stop to keep Spurs out. Minutes later, Cuthbert made a key block in the penalty area to once again deny the home side from drawing level.

After the break, Spurs went close with an Eveliina Summanen free-kick that went just wide of the post, and at the other end of the pitch, Maika Hamano forced a fingertip save from a Lize Kop left-footed curling effort from just outside the box.

There was a lot of play through the midfield areas as both sides cancelled each other out throughout the rest of the second half.

That was until some slick passing play in the final third from the Blues created a chance for Nusken to finish, with only an excellent double save from Kop denying us our second goal of the game.

It's now back to the Bridge to lift that trophy.
