Bayern Munich’s Coman on Chelsea radar
Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on Bayern Munich and France forward Kingsley Coman.
The 25-year-old has scored two goals so far this season, but has had trouble with injury which has seen him miss half of Bayern Munich’s 10 Bundesliga games.
In a report by 90min, citing German source Bild, Chelsea and Barcelona are apparently on high alert after the winger’s contract talks stalled.
‘Coman's current contract is due to expire in 2023 and talks over a new deal have stalled over his wage demands,' the report states.
‘The France international wants to double his salary from €10m to €20m per year, but the Bavarian giants have so far only offered around €13m, according to Bild.
‘As a result, Coman's representatives are believed to be considering the option of running down his contract at the Allianz Arena, with a view to sealing a free transfer and big-money contract elsewhere in 18 months' time,’ the report continues.
‘Chelsea and Barcelona have been alerted to the situation and the possibility of capturing a world-class player for a cut-price fee or for free in 2023.'
Coventry City manager offers Ian Maatsen insight
Maatsen joined the Championship side on a season-long loan in the summer and has played 15 out of 16 games for the Sky Blues.
They sit fourth in the table and Maatsen has been a great asset for the West Midland side, alongside Jake Clarke-Salter, also a Blues loanee.
In an interview with The Athletic, the Sky Blues manager and goalkeeper heaped praise on the young Blue.
‘It says a lot about how good he is that even a slightly off day stands out as exceptional. It is not normal. The kid is bright, he’s hugely talented, he wants to learn, and he never gives up,’ said Moore.
‘He’s got such a good temperament, he’s settled in with the group, and he’s soaking it all up like a sponge. I think he feels comfortable here, and he is only going to get better and better.
‘Maats has got an exciting future ahead of him.’
Manager Mark Robins also spoke highly of the connection between both Chelsea and Coventry.
‘Our recruitment department have cultivated a good relationship with Chelsea over the years. They know how we play, the style of football we are trying to promote, and they want to send their players here as part of their education.
‘They are benefitting from Chelsea plotting that development. Now throw in working again with Adi, a really good coach, and you can see why they would want to be a part of this.’
Allardyce backs Lampard for fresh Premier League challenge
Sam Allardyce has backed Chelsea legend and former manager Frank Lampard to get the Newcastle United job.
Lampard has been out of work since leaving the Blues in January of this year andhas been heavily linked to the vacant post in the North-East.
‘If I were Frank I would jump at the chance,’ Allardyce told talkSPORT.
‘He’s rested. He’s gained the experience at Derby and Chelsea.
‘His first season at Chelsea was brilliant under very, very tight restrictions and got them into the Champions League.
‘If the club has got money, then there’s no better place for Frank than to take Newcastle on, I would say. Maybe that might be the owners’ view. It would nice to see a British manager take charge, anyway.’
