Gimenez on Chelsea’s radar?

The Telegraph reports Chelsea are considering Atletico Madrid central defender Jose Gimenez as a potential summer signing with the Blues looking for reinforcements on our backline next season.

According to the report, the Blues have been scouting the Uruguay international ‘as Frank Lampard assesses his options should he choose to make changes to his central defenders this summer’.Following up on the report, The Sun suggested the 25-year-old would be a good fit in Lampard’s squad although he would come at a prohibitively high price for the Blues.

‘Frank Lampard is said to see Gimenez as a positive solution with his height and aerial ability a key factor,’ states the paper.‘It is reported that Nathan Ake is another target from Bournemouth with his buy-back clause said to stand at £40million for the West London club. That will be far lower than what Atletico will accept for Gimenez, with a £109m release clause on the defender's back.’

Mount feels Abraham has NBA potential

In a video interview with Sky Sports for their NBA YouTube page, Mason Mount has suggested Tammy Abraham has the size and skills to make it as a basketball player.

Asked to name a footballer with the potential to make it as an NBA player, Mount named the Chelsea striker, who stands at 1.94m tall.‘Which footballer could make it in the NBA? My team-mate Tammy Abraham could have a chance,’ said the midfielder.‘He is tall and into his basketball so I think he could maybe do okay.’Mount, who wore a New Orleans Pelicans jersey for the interview, also spoke about his friendship with Pelicans shooting guard Josh Hart, who wore Mount’s Chelsea kit before an NBA game earlier this season, and Larry Nance Jr of the Cleveland Cavaliers.‘They have both been to Chelsea game - I have seen them both after our matches – so it’s obviously good to see people from a different kind of athletic background coming to watch our games and obviously we watch their games as well,’ he said.‘So we have that link and it’s very exciting to watch each other’s games I speak to Josh and Larry quite a bit and they’re both good guys and we get on really well together.’

Pulisic in BBC’s team of the Week

BBC Sports analyst Garth Crooks has named Christian Pulisic in his team of the week and tipped the American to have an even bigger impact on the Premier League next season.

Pulisic produced an eye-catching display after coming on as a substitute against Liverpool on Wednesday, scoring and setting up a goal as the Blues attempted to battle back from a three-goal deficit.‘Liverpool were 4-1 up and suddenly Christian Pulisic came on with 30 minutes left to play and the American set Anfield alight,’ said the former England international.‘He set up Tammy Abraham with a glorious cross to score before netting himself with a piece of individual brilliance.‘With better defending from Chelsea they might have got the point they were looking for. Regardless, Pulisic is going to be a star next season.’
