Chilwell speaks up on mental issue

Ben Chilwell has spoken up on social media about mental health issues, revealing he sought help last year when he was struggling with his confidence, Sky Sports reports.

The left-back joined Chelsea from Leicester this summer after an impressive campaign with the Foxes but the 23-year-old said he needed support to get him through a trying period in 2019.

‘Last year I went through a period where my confidence took a hit and it affected me in my everyday life,’ Chilwell shared on Twitter.

‘I eventually spoke to someone about it and found it helped a lot.

‘In football especially people don't like to show weakness. But talking about difficulties or problems in your life with others is important.

‘Everyone is going through something and hopefully someone has seen this tweet and feels they are able to talk to someone about something troubling them, where they felt they couldn't before.’

Chillwell also shared the message on his Instagram story, accompanied with a note saying: ‘I think it's important we all talk on this topic, especially with everything going on at the moment.’

Carragher urged Terry not to join Cherries

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed in a podcast that he advised John Terry not to move to Bournemouth after he decided to leave Chelsea at the end of his contract in 2016, the Daily Express reports.

Speaking with Ryan Giggs on The Greatest Game Podcast, the ex-England centre-back explained that he warned the Blues legend about the drop in quality he would have to contend with after he had made his decision to move on.

‘I remember John Terry speaking to me once about leaving Chelsea and Bournemouth were in for him,’ said Carragher, who retired in 2013 after spending his entire club career at Liverpool

‘I said: “You know the clean sheets you're getting every week at Chelsea, you won't be getting them! You'll be coming home every week having conceded three.”

‘I think you've got to be very careful towards the end of your career..’
