Chilwell delights with Cole snap

New Chelsea signing Ben Chilwell has delighted Chelsea fans after sharing a photo of himself with former Blues left-back Ashley Cole on social media.

The 23-year-old, who completed his move from Leicester City to Stamford Bridge last week, had the opportunity to meet with the Chelsea legend recently and shared the image on Twitter and Facebook while expressing his ambition to emulate Cole’s achievements with the club.

‘Great afternoon spent chatting to this legend!’ wrote Chilwell in his posting.

‘Hopefully i can have a career like yours at this amazing club.’

The post has received a hugely positive response on social media with 37,000 likes on Facebook and nearly 60,000 likes on Twitter.

Brown looks to bounce back at Wednesday

Izzy Brown has told Yorkshire Live he is determined to make the most of his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday in the upcoming season and put his injury concerns of recent years behind him.

The 23-year-old played a key part in Huddersfield Town's promotion to the Premier League in 2017 but has suffered a spate of injuries since then which have derailed the progression of his career.

Having recovered from a hamstring injury which kept him out of action at Luton Town in the closing weeks of last season, the attacking midfielder hopes to make an impression now after joining the Owls on loan from Chelsea.

‘Some people have been saying I've got glass ankles or something! It has been tough for me. I don't know why the injuries have come along,’ he said.

‘Sometimes you go through that patch but I have been working hard and doing extra gym work. I have been seeing people away from football to make sure my body can stand up to a season of Championship football.

‘I feel like this season I am ready to play 40 to 50 games and then hopefully people won't be saying that anymore!’

Brown played in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Leicester City last weekend and wants to build on his positive start in Garry Monk’s team.

‘I feel like I have been unlucky with the injuries,’ he added. ‘None of them have been through a bad tackle or anything like that.

‘It's football and life so you just have to keep bouncing back from the setbacks.’

Boga to join Rennes?

Goal.com reports former Chelsea midfielder Jeremie Boga could be returning to his native France after Ligue 1 side Rennes put in an offer to buy him from Serie A outfit Sassuolo.

According to the report, the French club have submitted a €20 million bid for the 23-year-old as they prepare for their first-ever appearance in the Champions League after finishing third in the league last season.

Boga has impressed since he moved to Italy from Chelsea in 2018, scoring 11 league goals for Sassuolo during the 2019-20 campaign and attracting interest from Serie A sides Atalanta, Napoli and Roma and Premier League club Brighton.

Rennes, where he spent the 2015/16 season on loan, have watched him closely with manager Julien Stephan recently expressing his admiration for the France-born Ivory Coast international.

‘I can’t speak about numbers. He is quite simply a player who is coming out of a very good spell with Sassuolo,’ said Stephan.

‘He has very interesting characteristics in terms of his penetration, his pace and his ability to finish off moves. We know him well at the club as he was on loan here a few seasons ago. At the time, I was in charge of the reserves, we got to know each other in certain instances, we know each other.

‘He is a player who is one of our potential targets, there is enormous competition with very big clubs – we will see what happens in the coming weeks and months.’
