Chelsea ‘make contact’ with Werner

Reports in the Sun suggest that the Blues are set to move ahead of Liverpool in the race to land RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner, having allegedly contacted the German about a switch to Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old striker has been in superb form for Leipzig this season, registering 27 goals in 36 Bundesliga appearances and has been a key part of Julian Nagelsmann’s side reaching third place in the German top flight.

However reports also suggest that the Blues may have a fight to land Werner ahead of Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp willing to meet the striker in person once the lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak is over.

‘Werner has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool with boss Jurgen Klopp planning to meet with the Leipzig ace to convince him on a switch to Merseyside,’ states the report.

‘But according to Kicker, the Reds now face a battle with Chelsea to secure the German's signature with the Blues making direct contact with RB Leipzig to sign Werner.

‘They were heavily linked with PSG’s Edinson Cavani but were unable to get a deal over the line. Lampard has refused to rule out a transfer for the Uruguayan this summer and is sniffing around Werner to bolster the Blues' ranks at the front also.

‘Bayern Munich have been linked with Werner since last summer but Reds boss Klopp plans to tempt the Leipzig ace away from his former rivals by meeting the star in person.’

David Luiz opens up on Blues exit – ‘My love for Chelsea has always been true’

David Luiz has lifted the lid on his Stamford Bridge exit, admitting he had “doubts” at leaving Chelsea for Arsenal at the start of the season.

The Brazilian was allowed to leave by Frank Lampard on the eve of the season, moving across London to join the Gunners on deadline day after two stints with the Blues.

However, David Luiz has revealed to ESPN Brazil the doubts he harboured before making the switch, after making a “quick decision” to leave Chelsea.

‘I was always very happy at Chelsea,’ the 32-year-old told ESPN Brazil .

‘And then the understanding of knowing that my cycle was over, even though I thought it wasn’t going to end that way, in a quick decision.

‘I decided to leave Chelsea before I even had the door open at Arsenal.

‘I know that Arsenal weren't in a great moment, they had a weight on their defence, [when] I go there I’ll have to pay the restaurant bill without having eaten. But I’m going because I want something new for my life, I want to learn.’

David Luiz added on how difficult his first couple of months at Arsenal were under Unai Emery: ‘It wasn’t easy at first.

‘Not only [in terms] of adaptation, but about taking the criticism, the sadness of many Chelsea fans for not understanding my personal decisions.

‘My respect and love for Chelsea has always been true.’

Chelsea’s 'amazing' gesture to the NHS receives recognition

Football London has reported on Chelsea’s announcement that we will provide further support to the NHS by delivering 78,000 free meals, labelling the gesture as ‘amazing’.

For an initial six-week period, we will use our catering partner, Levy's, to produce 13,000 meals per week.

This comes on top of the earlier generous contributions to the NHS during this time, in which Football London acknowledged in their coverage.

‘It’s an amazing gesture from the club,’ starts the report.

‘Chelsea, of course, have been hit financially during the coronavirus pandemic, but have provided a great service throughout.

‘The Blues have committed to paying their staff on full pay, have opened the Millennium Hotel free of charge to NHS staff and provided online courses to help educate children while schools are closed.’
