Blues ranked fifth in power index
According to the Mirror, Chelsea are in fifth place in a table which ranks the world’s top football clubs according to their recent performances.
Produced by sports statistics website FiveThirtyEight, the Soccer Power Index looks at 634 international football clubs and assigns a rating for each of them which is updated after each match.
‘Researchers at the website produced a Soccer Power Index (SPI) which provides teams with an offensive and defensive rating,’ states the Mirror’s report.
‘They then combine the two together to give an average score and rank how likely the team would be to win against an average team on a neutral field.’
In the latest ranking, the Blues were in fifth place overall, behind leaders Manchester City, second-placed Bayern Munich, Liverpool (third) and Barcelona (fourth), and just ahead of sixth-placed Paris Saint-Germain.
The other clubs in the top 10 were Real Madrid (seventh), Everton (eighth), Olympiacos (ninth) and Ajax (10th), while our Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur were 12th, Arsenal were 28th and Manchester United were a lowly 34th.
Loftus-Cheek takes a pool run
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has shared video on Twitter which show him taking a run in a pool as he continues his recovery from the Achilles injury which he suffered in May.
The 23-year-old, who recently signed a new five-year contract with the club, is expected to be sidelined for some time after undergoing surgery for the unfortunate injury which he picked up during the Final Whistle on Hate charity match against New England Revolution.
However, he appears to be making good progress in his rehabilitation as he could be seen putting some weight on his injured foot while taking his slow jog in the pool, with a row of video monitors set up in front of him to monitor his progression.
The midfielder appeared pleased with how his recovery was going, writing, ‘First run today,’ in his post with an accompanying star-struck emoji.
Scott looks set to join Newcastle
Having been released by Chelsea after his contract expired at the end of June, midfielder Kyle Scott appears to have found a new club with the Footballer Insider website indicating he is about to sign a deal with Newcastle United.
‘A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that Scott, 21, has told the club he will finalise a free transfer after accepting their offer of a three-year contract,’ stated the website.
‘Barring any late hitches, Scott should be confirmed as Newcastle’s first recruit of a stormy summer and then an announcement should follow soon afterwards.’
According to the report, former Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez laid the groundwork for the deal for the former United States Under-20 international before he left the Magpies for Chinese side Dalian Yifang last month.
Scott joined Chelsea at the age of 10 and played on the teams that won the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League in 2016. He made his only senior appearance for the Blues in our 4-0 win over Hull City during our successful FA Cup run in 2018.
