Blues eyeing defensive duo

Real Madrid defenders Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos are both on Thomas Tuchel’s radar as potential additions to his squad this summer, according to Defensa Central.

It is claimed our German head coach is keeping his options open on potential signings to strengthen our back line ahead of next season, and the Real pair are at the top of his list.

We have repeatedly been linked with a move for Varane over the last year, but would likely face stiff competition to sign the 28-year-old French international, with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain both also reportedly interested.

Meanwhile, veteran defender Ramos is available on a free transfer as his Real Madrid contract expires this summer and his departure from the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu has already been confirmed, although he is likely to come with significant wage demands.

However, while Defensa Central claim both players top Chelsea’s shortlist, the Blues are reportedly only looking to sign one of the pair this year.

Foden expects big things from Gilmour

Manchester City’s Phil Foden believes Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour will become a key player for the Scottish national team, as reported by football.london.

Gilmour received his first senior international call-up for Euro 2020 and made his Scotland debut in a 2-2 friendly draw with the Netherlands last week.

Following that, England international Foden has picked out Gilmour as a player the Three Lions will need to keep an eye on when they meet Scotland in the group stage next Friday.

‘He's a great talent,’ said Foden. ‘He's still so young and has a lot to learn but I've played against him a few times and every time I've played against him I've been impressed.

‘He's definitely going to be a great player in the future and he'll be a great player for Scotland.’

Foden, who was on the losing side in this season’s Champions League final as Chelsea defeated Manchester City in Porto, also feels having so many players from those two sides involved in such a big match in the England squad could help the Three Lions in the latter stages of Euro 2020.

‘That can definitely help us. We’ve had a lot of players playing important games so we’ll know what it feels like if we get to those matches.’

Boateng backs Werner to shine

Jerome Boateng has told BILD that winning the Champions League will bring the best out of Timo Werner at Chelsea, as reported by Football365.

Boateng is no stranger to success, having won the Champions League twice and nine Bundesliga titles during his time with Bayern Munich, and feels the confidence boost that victory provides will push Werner to new heights for club and country after adapting to English football in his first season with the Blues.

‘Timo has changed country, club, playing in a new league. It is not so easy,’ said Boateng.

‘Nonetheless, he scored his goals, provided assists, was present, went through a dip and came out and now he’s a Champions League winner.

‘For me it has been a positive season with the usual ups and downs. It makes him bigger and stronger and he learns from it.

‘At the Euros, we will see another Timo Werner, a hungry Timo. A Timo with more arrogance, because he has just won the Champions League.

‘It carries you. He will show who he really is.’
