Blues and Man Utd in for Sancho?
The Sun reports Chelsea and Manchester United will be making strong bids to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho this summer but the 19-year-old could still return to Manchester City who reportedly have an option to match any offer for him.
The young England international has been in good form for Dortmund this season, fuelling speculation he will be leaving the Bundesliga club.
‘Blues boss Frank Lampard looked at bringing Sancho in during the January transfer window but he was forced into cooling his interest as he struggled to strike up a deal and decided to wait until the summer,’ stated the paper.
‘United had a similar issue, and could not fork out the £100m fee being demanded along with Bruno Fernandes £55m outlay.
‘Lampard is keen to invest in the squad in other areas, but may be given extra funds after failing to make purchases in January.’
However, the report suggests the former Manchester City youth player could return to the Etihad Stadium because of a clause put in his contract when he left City to join Dortmund in 2017.
‘It is well known the club has a 20 per cent sell-on clause and an option to match any offer,’ said a club insider to the Sun.
‘It was to make sure he did not come back without at least being in the equation for him.’
Jorginho to discuss Chelsea future
According to Goal.com, the agent of Jorginho will discuss the future of the midfielder with Chelsea at the end of the season and has not ruled out the possibility he could leave.
The 28-year-old has had a good season under Frank Lampard, scoring four goals in 23 league outings while serving as the club’s vice-captain.
However, his agent, Joao Santos, told Tuttomercatoweb he is expecting offers for the Italy international this summer window, despite having another three years to run on his Chelsea contract.
‘Why not?’ said Santos when asked if Jorginho could leave Chelsea.
‘I am sure that some important proposals will come, which we would obviously evaluate together with Chelsea.
‘Even personally, he is doing very well at Chelsea, and I am sure that some important proposals will come because in his role there are not many high-level players like him around.’
Ruben delights in return to action
Ruben Loftus-Cheek clearly enjoyed his first taste of football action for nearly nine months as he shared a photo of himself in action in a closed-door friendly at Cobham on Wednesday on an Instagram post which has generated a huge response.
The midfielder generated more than 135,000 likes for the image from the development squad’s match against Brentford on Wednesday, which was accompanied with the caption: ‘Back running with the ball at my feet’.
Loftus-Cheek played for an hour in his first game back since he underwent surgery for an Achilles injury he suffered last May and the Evening Standard suggested he is likely to see more action with the development squad as he works towards his comeback with the senior team.
‘The first-team squad are on their winter break but Loftus-Cheek is using the 16-day hiatus to improve his fitness, having been sidelined since May,’ said the paper.
‘Should he suffer no adverse reaction, Loftus-Cheek is likely to feature in similar matches this month. Chelsea’s next development squad fixture is at Arsenal on February 17.’
