Jenas impressed by Werner and Ziyech

Jermaine Jenas is expecting big things to come from Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner at Chelsea after our new signings delighted the former England midfielder during the Blues’ Champions League clash against Krasnodar on Wednesday.

Speaking on BT Sport’s coverage of our 4-0 victory in Russia, Jenas sang the praises of Ziyech as the Morocco international capped his first start for the club by scoring the third goal.

‘You know what, I thought he (Ziyech) had some really good moments in there,’ said the former Tottenham Hotspur player, according to football.london.

‘In the first half he was getting better as the half went on. I mentioned the fact that fitness for him is of most importance right now, he is a player that relies a lot on his sharpness and you can see the quick feet in the tight areas.

‘He is going to be a good player for Chelsea and he is a man that thoroughly enjoyed seeing that third goal go in for Chelsea.’

Werner was also on target as he converted a penalty for our crucial second goal and Jenas expects the German will soon start to find the back of the net on a more consistent basis.

‘I just love the ability he has to play in all forward positions. It shows the intelligence of the player,’ he added of the striker who has now scored four goals in nine games for Chelsea.

‘It hasn’t been all going his way, but he’s been sticking at it, and he’s going to get goals.

‘For a Chelsea team that are trying to keep the door shut at times, he could be the difference, because he has the quality of international level and Champions League level as well.’

James helps out food charity

The Daily Mail reports Reece James is making a big contribution to a London food charity and is also helping on a funding drive which hopes to raise £100,000 for the cause by December.

According to the report, the Chelsea right-back has donated £10,000 to the Felix Project - a charity that takes surplus food and delivers it to people who are going hungry in the British capital.

In addition, he has also launched a fundraising page to help the charity with its mission to deliver at least 19 million meals by the end of 2020.

The report indicates that James hopes to raise £100,000 for the cause by his 21st birthday on 8 December.

Cumming on benefit of being third-choice keeper

Jamie Cumming has told Goal.com that the experience of being Chelsea’s third-choice goalkeeper last season was a positive one which he hopes to build on as he looks to make his mark on the club in the future.

While the 21-year-old did not appear in any competitive matches for our senior side in the 2019/20 campaign, he saw it as an excellent learning opportunity.

‘It might not have looked ideal from the outside but my former academy coaches, Jody [Morris], Joe [Edwards] and James [Russell, assistant goalkeeper coach], made it easy for me to develop myself,’ said Cumming, who has joined League Two side Stevenage on a season-long loan.

‘Hilario, the goalkeeper coach, had done the role (reserve goalkeeper) himself and knew what I needed to do to improve.

‘As a young player, I also learned a lot from training with Kepa and Willy, who are great people. Obviously, you want to start playing games eventually but I took everything I could out of that time.’

Cumming has been at Chelsea since he was an Under-8 and believes he has the ability to eventually become our first-choice keeper.

‘Everyone believes they can play at the highest level and I would like to think I could get to the Premier League in a few years,’ he added.

‘I have seen what the level is like but I believe in myself. I think I can get to that level. I know what I am capable of but it is up to me to show it every season.’
