Van Gaal praises Tuchel

Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal has praised Thomas Tuchel for the job he has done since arriving at Chelsea.

Speaking in his press conference, the former Manchester United head coach came under fire for his style of play after picking up four points from a possible six in the Netherlands’ World Cup qualifiers.

‘Is that defensive football, in your eyes?’ Van Gaal asked a journalist about Tuchel’s style of play. ‘With the 5-3-2 or 5-2-3, you can attack incredibly well.’

Tuchel’s preferred 3-4-2-1 or 3-5-2 formation led the German to his first Champions League title and a top-four finish at Stamford Bridge after his arrival in January.

The Netherlands head coach also added he was more entertained by the Blues in the Champions League final.

‘Chelsea show it every time,’ Van Gaal added about the German’s style of play. ‘And I take my hat off to Mr Tuchel because he got in halfway through the season.’
