Blues eyeing De Ligt

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Dutch centre-back Matthijs De Ligt.

According to Calcio Mercato, the Blues are interested in adding another centre-back to the squad to further strengthen at the back.

‘Chelsea are thought to be exploring centre-back options, and one of them is rumoured to be De Ligt,’ the report states. ‘The European champions have reportedly identified the Netherlands international as the ideal long-term successor to Thiago Silva.’

The former Ajax man signed for Juventus in 2019 after an impressive Champions League semi-final run with his boyhood club.

The 21-year-old appeared 36 times for the Italian giants last season and played a significant part in his national team’s Euro 2020 campaign.

De Ligt’s current Juventus contract expires in 2024 and the Italians are reported to see him as a future captain one day.

Pulisic on winning titles

Blues winger Christian Pulisic has opened up on winning titles for club and country.

Speaking to CBS Sport, the American reflected over his summer of winning the UEFA Champions League and the CONCACAF Nations League.

‘The end of the season is just a time I’ll never forget,’ he said. ‘The work we put in, the change in the team and how we all came together, it meant so much more at the end of the season.

‘It was such a special experience and then right after that to then go with the national team and getting my first trophy with them was also just incredible.’

The winger scored in the semi-final first leg and assisted in the second against Real Madrid to put the Blues into the final of the Champions League. He also scored the decisive penalty in extra-time to win the Nations League with the US national team.

‘There were finals that we lost in the last couple of years and that makes you not want that feeling anymore,’ he added. ‘And now winning, it’s an addictive feeling.’

Ferdinand backs Blues for title

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has backed the Blues as potential title winners ahead of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

Speaking to Goal, Ferdinand believes Chelsea still have plenty of business to do ahead of the new season.

‘The big clubs will all be making moves,’ he said. ‘Everyone will make moves, 100 per cent.

‘I think Chelsea, after doing what they have done in the Champions League. That will give the owner the right impetus to go again, which is exciting for the league.’

The Blues begin our season tomorrow when we face Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup final in Belfast and Ferdinand believes Thomas Tuchel’s men will be potential favourites for trophies this season.

‘Chelsea are going to be a big threat,’ he added. ‘I think the manager alone and the confidence of winning the Champions League, and what that means to his team, is huge if they invest in the right areas.’
