Chelsea interested in Gimenez
The Blues are reportedly keen on signing Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea are interested in signing the Uruguayan international to bolster Thomas Tuchel’s squad in the summer.
The report states that the Blues are looking to sign an imposing centre-back who can lead and dominate the backline and Gimenez is reportedly viewed as a player that fits that criteria.
The 25-year-old has previously expressed his desire to play for Chelsea in interviews and also once liked a Twitter post linking him with a move to Stamford Bridge.
The Uruguayan’s contract runs out in 2023. He is a versatile player that can also play as a right-back or a holding midfielder.
Gimenez is also reportedly seen as a long-term replacement for Thiago Silva.
Aluko praises Havertz
Eniola Aluko was full of praise for Kai Havertz after his performance in our 2-0 win against Everton last night.
The German’s shot deflected off Ben Godfrey for the opener, and he won the penalty for Jorginho’s spot-kick in the second half to cap a good display.
Speaking in the BT Sport studio, the former Chelsea Women star was left very impressed by the 21-year-old’s performance.
‘Havertz was involved in everything good,’ Aluko said. ‘His movement was very good.
‘It was a good start from Chelsea, and from then on, Havertz’s movement in those little 10 pockets, really started to dictate the game, particularly in the second half.’
Havertz currently has five goals and eight assists in his debut season in the Premier League. After being out of the team with injuries, Aluko believes the attacking midfielder took his chance.
‘He was getting into those little pockets, linking up with Werner, just clever play,’ she continued. ‘I think he has given Thomas Tuchel a lot to think about.
‘There is a lot of competition for places up front. A lot of good competition up front for Chelsea is healthy.’
Diego Costa linked with Benfica
Diego Costa has been linked with a move to Benfica.
According to Goal.com, the former Blues attacker is set to join the Portuguese giants after being a free agent for nearly three months. He is reportedly set to sign a two-year-deal with the club.
The 32-year-old terminated his contract with Atletico Madrid in January and has also been linked with Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab and childhood club Palmeiras.
In his second stint at Atletico, Diego Costa netted 19 goals in 81 games before his contract was terminated six months early for personal reasons.
His final goal for Atletico was a penalty at home against Elche in December.
Diego Costa joined the Blues in 2014 and won three trophies with the club, including two Premier League titles in 2015 and 2017.
