Blues monitoring Aguero
Chelsea are reportedly assessing Sergio Aguero’s situation at Manchester City.
According to the Daily Mail, the Blues have been admirers of the Argentine since his Atletico Madrid days and would be interested in bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
Aguero has barely featured for Manchester City this season for various reasons, but with his contract soon to be running out, there are a lot of clubs keeping an eye on the situation.
The report states that if Chelsea want to sign Aguero in the summer, they’ll have to fight off interest from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
City’s all-time leading goalscorer has appeared 14 times this season for the club and has three goals.
Southgate impressed by James
Gareth Southgate has explained why he recalled Reece James for the Three Lions’ upcoming international fixtures.
Speaking in his press conference, the England manager highlighted the number of talented right-backs in the country and believes the 21-year-old’s season has earned him a spot in the national team.
‘There are some areas of the pitch where we’ve got incredible competition for places,’ Southgate said when asked about his selections.
‘It’s simply that we think Reece James and Kieran Trippier have had exceptional seasons with their clubs.’
James will be joined by two team-mates in Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount with the national team. The right-back has been outstanding when called upon and also has been a huge threat down the right-hand side all season.
‘Reece James was exceptional with us in the autumn,’ the England boss added.
‘And his performance (against Atletico Madrid) for Chelsea sort of underlined that, in a top-level game.’
Arshavin labels Blues duo as toughest opponents
Andrey Arshavin has labelled Branislav Ivanovic and John Terry as the toughest opponents he faced in the Premier League.
Speaking to UEFA, the former Arsenal man spoke about two former Blues when asked about the most feared opponents he came across in his career.
‘Most feared defender?’ he asked. ‘I didn’t have that type of defender, but it was still very difficult to play against Ivanovic and Terry if we are talking about England.’
The pair were outstanding together and formed a formidable partnership for years at Stamford Bridge. They both were very influential in our Premier League title-winning years in 2010 and 2015.
When asked about one of his favourite team-mates, Arshavin referred to another former Chelsea player in Cesc Fabregas.
‘Let’s say, Fabregas,’ he said. ‘He can deliver the ball from any point to another in the right moment and with the right timing.’
