In our look at the latest Chelsea-related news stories from the media, the Blues are reportedly keeping a watch on Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku’s futures, while Edouard Mendy sends a thoughtful message to Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sanco and Bukayo Saka.

Kane and Lukaku linked with Chelsea

The Sun is suggesting that the Blues could make a move for either Harry Kane or Romelu Lukaku if Erling Haaland remains at Borussia Dortmund.

The Blues have been linked with the Norwegian striker but the report hints that any move for Haaland will be difficult to complete, with Kane and Lukaku both being monitored as alternatives.

The report adds that Dortmund do not want to sell the 20-year-old, especially after they let Jadon Sancho join Manchester United.

A source close to the deal has been quoted as saying: ‘Chelsea are trying but it is going to be very difficult.

‘At the moment it looks like mission impossible. It is unlikely but that doesn't mean it can't happen.’

The report continues and analyses the chances of either Kane or Lukuku departing their respective clubs this season.

‘Chelsea were previously considering a move for former striker Lukaku but the Belgian is keen on staying at Inter Milan,’ added the report in The Sun.

‘The Nerazzurri were expected to sell players due to financial fair play concerns but Achraf Hakimi's sale has reportedly resolved that issue.

‘Meanwhile Spurs superstar Kane is unlikely to be allowed to make the move across London to join rivals Chelsea.’

Mendy sends heartfelt message to England trio

Edouard Mendy has become the latest footballer to show support to Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Sako.

The England trio were subjected to vile racist abuse on social media after missing their spot-kicks in the Three Lions’ shootout defeat to Italy in Sunday’s Euro 2020 final at Wembley.

Chelsea goalkeeper Mendy took to Instgram to offer his support to the three players, posting a heartfelt and emotional message, which was then reported by Football London.

‘Football is the sport that brings us together and makes us live incredible emotions together.

‘Behind each player there is a team, a club, a country, a family and supporters that we want to make proud, whatever our origins.

‘But racism should not exist, either in football or in society. We cannot tolerate this kind of behaviour, and we must continue to fight it.

‘@marcusrashford @sanchooo10 and @bukayosaka87 I sincerely want to bring you and your families my support and tell you how proud you can be.

‘You guys have been and keep being a role model and a true inspiration for millions of children around the world. We are together.’

Former Chelsea youngster opens up on injury struggles

Ex-Chelsea Academy player Charlie Wakefield has opened up on the injury struggles that have dogged his progression and hopes his move to Yeovil can kickstart his career.

The youngster came through the Academy ranks at Cobham, featuring in the same youth team as the likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek and training on many occasions with the senior side under Antonio Conte.

However a succession of injuries, a freak illness and the Covid-19 pandemic hitting have seen him depart Chelsea and move into non-league via a short spell at Coventry.

The midfielder spoke to Goal on how he hopes a move to National League side Yeovil can get his career back on track, as well as opening up on his time at Chelsea.

‘I was playing at Chelsea, 18-years-old, everything was going well, and heading into the Under-23s having won a lot of trophies,’ Wakefield told Goal. ‘I played in unbelievable teams with the likes of Mason Mount, Andreas Christensen, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and many more. Everything was good.

‘I was a Chelsea fan before I signed for them. I used to get goosebumps on Champions League nights. All of a sudden, injuries started. I have had 10 hamstring injuries between the ages of 18 and 21.

‘I then had a collapsed lung which came on top of the hamstring injuries. I had 10 days off to go on holiday so I went to New York with my girlfriend. The plane journey led to me suffering a collapsed lung on the drive to my first training session upon my return.

‘I was rushed to hospital from the training ground and I had to have two months out with no exercise after that.

‘It has been a rollercoaster, but it makes me feel bulletproof. I want to be someone footballers can reach out to because I have been there. I am still just 23, but I have gone through a lot.’
