In our look at the latest Chelsea-related news stories from the media, the Blues are again linked with a move for Erling Haaland while the unusual Euro 2020 ‘ritual’ performed by Gianluca Vialli is revealed…

Haaland linked with Premier League switch

According to The Express, both Chelsea and Manchester United are leading the race to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

The report suggests that both Chelsea and United have shown the most interest in the striker, while Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all said to be admirers. Bayern Munich, however, appear to have turned their immediate attentions elsewhere.

‘Manchester United and Chelsea appear to have been handed a boost in their respective pursuits of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, with Bayern Munich switching their focus to the capture of PSV Eindhoven's Cody Gakpo,’ the report states.

‘Plenty of clubs have been linked with a move for Haaland, who has been tipped to leave Dortmund and join one of Europe's elite in the near future.’

The Norwegian striker is one of the most in-demand young talents in Europe at the moment, after netting 57 goals in just 59 goals for the Bundesliga side since arriving from RB Salzburg last January.

Dortmund are adamant that their prize asset won’t be allowed to depart the Westfalenstadion this summer, unless a huge transfer bid is made.

Why Vialli ‘missed’ the Italian team coach

Former Chelsea striker turned Italian coach Gianluca Vialli proudly lifted the European Championship at Wembley last night, but it seems he was close to missing the trip altogether!

Italy defeated England on penalties to win Euro 2020, with Chelsea duo Jorginho and Emerson playing a key role for the side managed by Roberto Mancini and assisted by Vialli.

However a video emerged of the team departing Florence for London two days before the final, before the team coach stopped halfway up the road to allow Vialli to catch up and take his place on the bus.

The Daily Star reported the incident at the time, but it has since transpired that Vialli has done this before each Italy game as part of a ‘superstitious ritual’.

Italian media reports revealed that the former Chelsea No.9 genuinely almost missed the bus before their opening Euro 2020 game against Turkey – a match they went on to win 3-0 – and so the ritual of Vialli ‘missing’ the coach was born and was performed before each game.

Chelsea duo complete historic ‘double’

The Sun has heaped praise on Jorginho and Emerson, after the Blues pair played their part in helping Italy win Euro 2020 and joining an elite list of players to have lifted the Champions League and the European Championship in the same season.

The duo both played key roles as Italy defeated England on penalties at Wembley on Sunday night, to lift Euro 2020 just six weeks since they won the Champions League with Chelsea.

‘Winning both tournaments in the same season is some feat and sees the Italian duo join some esteemed company in doing so,’ explains the report.

‘Only seven players before them had completed the rare Euros and Champions League double in the same year.

‘Spanish great Luis Suarez helped his national team to Euros glory in 1964 having won the European Cup with Inter Milan that year.

‘Four Dutch stars - Ronald Koeman, Barry van Aerle, Hans van Breucklen and Gerald Vanenburg - also managed it in 1988.

‘They all played in PSV Eindhoven's 1988 European Cup winning team before winning the Euros with Holland that summer.

‘Another Chelsea duo achieved the feat in 2012 in Juan Mata and Fernando Torres. The Spanish pair helped sink Bayern Munich in the Champions League final before their national team retained their Euros crown in Poland and Ukraine.

'And Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe also managed it five years ago.'
