Messi sees Mount as future star

According to the Daily Mail, Mason Mount has been tipped for stardom by no less a figure than six-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.

Messi’s regard for Mount came to light after the Argentinian included the young Chelsea midfielder in an exclusive pack of football cards featuring his selection of the game’s best young players.

‘Mount was enjoying a brilliant breakthrough season at Chelsea before the coronavirus shutdown and it hasn't gone unnoticed throughout European football,’ stated the report.

‘Barcelona superstar Messi, widely renowned as the best to ever play the game, is the latest to offer their thoughts on Mount after teaming up with Topps to create an exclusive pack of football cards.

‘Messi picked Mount in his Youth on the Rise category, before going on to lavish praise on the England midfielder.’

The Barcelona striker reportedly said of Mount: ‘Having watched him play he has the potential to be one of the best.’

Blues may have ‘first refusal’ on Dembele

The Mirror reports Chelsea are leading the race to sign striker Moussa Dembele from Lyon this summer.

The 23-year-old has attracted interest from Manchester United as well but the Blues reportedly have first refusal on the Frenchman.

‘The Blues are understood to be first in line for the 23-year-old’s signature after trying to sign him in the January transfer window,’ states the report.

‘Lyon repelled Chelsea’s approaches on that occasion but are prepared to sell the Frenchman this summer.

‘It could take a bid of up to £60m to prise Dembele from Parc Olympique Lyonnais as the former Fulham and Celtic player has enjoyed another excellent campaign.

‘He has scored 22 goals and assisted seven times in 42 appearances this season, attracting interest from Chelsea boss Frank Lampard and his Manchester United counterpart Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

‘Both managers are keen to recruit a forward to provide competition for current striking options and fill the role for years to come.’

United look to fend off interest in Gomes

According to Metro, Manchester United have renewed contract talks with young midfielder Angel Gomes, who has been linked with a summer move to Chelsea.

The 19-year-old’s current deal with the Red Devils is set to expire at the end of this season and he had reportedly been reluctant to accept the club’s new terms.

However, the report suggests United have increased their offer to retain his services.

‘The playmaker has been at the club for over a decade but he’s been frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities, making just six appearances in all competitions this season,’ states the report.

‘Gomes’ situation has alerted Chelsea, with Metro.co.uk revealing earlier this month that the Blues had made clear to the midfielder’s representatives that they’re interested in his services.

‘United have already offered Gomes a salary of around £25,000-a-week on a two-year deal but the midfielder wanted greater security.

‘Sources have told Metro.co.uk that United have offered the option of a third year on top of their existing offer with further instalments that could take him to around £30,000-a-week.

‘United believe Gomes’ preference is to remain at the club and that his representatives are simply seeking a better deal for their client. But United have had their fingers burnt in the past in adopting such a risky stance, most notably with Paul Pogba in 2012.’
