French youngster wanted by Chelsea?

According to Onefootball.com, Chelsea and Manchester City could go head-to-head to secure the signing of France Under-21 international Boubacar Kamara from Marseille this summer

Citing a report from France, the website suggests the Ligue 1 side could be looking to sell the 20-year-old due to financial concerns in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis.

‘The 20-year-old has been a key player for the French outfit over the past two years and he has caught the eye with his ability to play in the holding midfield role or at the heart of the defence,’ states the report.

‘Marseille recently sealed their Champions League spot with a second-place finish in Ligue 1 but Le 10 Sport claims that they may still consider player sales to deal with the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

‘The same publication cites that the Blues and Cityzens are among the clubs in the running to sign Kamara, who has represented France on the international stage at every youth level.’

Manchester United and Arsenal are also reportedly interested in Kamara, who played for his country at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland last summer.

Ali on ‘nice’ pressure to retain FA Youth Cup

Former Chelsea Academy youngster Mukhtar Ali has told Goal.com about his experience of winning the FA Youth Cup, indicating the desire to emulate the Academy’s previous successes help to drive on the players.

Ali, who now plays for Al Nassr in the Saudi Professional League, lifted the trophy with the Blues in 2015 and 2016 during our record-equalling run of five consecutive victories in the competition.

‘We had seen all the older groups going for it and winning it,’ said Ali, speaking in a feature on our FA Youth Cup success of the past decade.

‘It was a thing from being young where we had a lot of eyes on us as a group because we had achieved a lot of things before that. So it was a little bit of pressure but a nice pressure.

‘We knew we could beat any team. The second game in that run [in 2016] was Manchester United and we beat them 5-1. We just thought from there that we can definitely win it.’

Reds no longer interested in Werner

The Mirror has suggested Chelsea and Manchester United are now the main contenders to sign Timo Werner following a report in Germany that Liverpool are not interested in bringing in the RB Leipzig striker this summer.

Anfield was reported to be the preferred destination for the 24-year-old but the Reds may not be ready to make an offer due to the coronavirus crisis.

‘The Reds have changed their transfer plans due to the expected financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and will instead focus on scouring Europe for the best young talent,’ states the paper.

‘That means putting a move for Werner on hold, as the Germany striker is reported to have a £52million release clause in his contract with Bundesliga title challengers Leipzig.

‘And United and Chelsea have attempted to capitalise on Liverpool's new position by swooping for Werner, according to German publication Sport Bild.

‘Sport Bild's head of football, Christian Falk said on Twitter that both clubs had made contact with Werner's agent, as the player still awaits an offer from Liverpool.’
