Mount on his national team journey with Rice

Mason Mount was on the scoresheet again for England in their 4-0 win against Iceland at Wembley last night. The 21-year-old has now made it three goals in five matches for the Three Lions.

What made last night extra special though, was his lifelong friend Declan Rice also getting a goal which was his first for England.

‘It’s special memories that we’re making together,’ Mount said after the game to Sky Sports, also reported in the Daily Mail.

‘The first goal for him is special and it means a lot. For me to be on the pitch when he scored it means a lot.’

Mount was deployed in the midfield for England again, a position he is slowly making his own. He often pushed up the pitch creating chances for himself and his team-mates, an aspect of his game that makes him so valuable.

‘I had the freedom to go a bit forward and link up with Jack (Grealish), Phil (Foden) and Harry (Kane).

‘That attack we had was deadly. It was a good performance.’

The two youngsters will be looking to keep impressing Gareth Southgate to be selected for the Euros next year.

Hudson-Odoi on expectations around him

Callum Hudson-Odoi feels prepared to challenge for a spot in the Blues’ starting line-up after impressive performances for the England Under-21s.

Hudson-Odoi scored and won the Man of the Match award in a 5-0 win over Albania Under-21s and spoke to goal.com about the expectation around him as a young player.

‘I’m only 20!’ he said. ‘Sometimes people forget the age because I have been around for a while. I started young. I have kicked on well and I can keep progressing day in day out.

‘Sometimes there is a lot of expectation and you just have to play your normal game, and the result will go your way. I just keep positive and hope the end result will be good.’

With the tough schedule ahead for the Blues, Hudson-Odoi will use the minutes he got during the international break to prepare himself when he is needed by Frank Lampard.

‘You train hard at Chelsea every day, the coaches are always looking and you always want to prove a point that you are ready when called upon.

‘When I train and play in games, I want to score, assist, work hard for the team and always improve myself on the pitch and prove a point.’

Blues keeping an eye on Bellingham

Bellingham became the third youngest player to make their Three Lions debut this international break and his transfer to Borussia Dortmund is a sign that there is a lot of high expectation for him.

It is reported that Lampard is a big fan of Declan Rice and sees him as a suitable option that can play centre-back and in the midfield.

The report states that the Blues might wait and make Borussia Dortmund an offer in 2022 if the Rice option doesn’t work out.

Chelsea and Manchester United were among possible buyers before Bellingham’s move to Germany in the summer.
