Terry tipped for Toon
According to The Mirror, Chelsea legend John Terry is being backed to become the new head coach of Newcastle.
The Magpies relieved Steve Bruce of his duties last month following the club’s takeover, with Graeme Jones currently in interim charge and overseeing their 3-0 home loss to Chelsea at the weekend.
JT, who won five Premier League titles during his time at Stamford Bridge, was previously part of Dean Smith’s backroom staff at Aston Villa but left at the start of the season to pursue becoming a manager in his own right and many bookmakers believe that an opportunity at St James’ Park may present itself.
‘Chelsea legend John Terry has emerged as a surprise candidate to become the next Newcastle manager,’ the report in The Mirror states.
‘The former Aston Villa assistant left Dean Smith's side in July to pursue his ambition of becoming a manager in the near future.
‘And Terry's odds with bookmakers to replace Steve Bruce at St James' Park were slashed on Friday evening, fuelling speculation on social media.’
Le Saux praises Rudiger’s form
Former Chelsea defender Graeme Le Saux has heaped praise on the Blues defence, with Antonio Rudiger receiving extra admiration.
Le Saux was impressed with our professional display against Newcastle and revealed in an interview with The Atheltic that he sees similarities in Rudiger and John Terry in the way the German approaches games at the moment.
‘If you look at any team that is succeeding defensively, you see that unity during and after a match,’ Le Saux said to The Atheltic.
‘They celebrate if they keep a clean sheet. There is pride in achieving that, at building a real resistance.
‘The defensive momentum, clean sheet after clean sheet, win after win, strengthens that bond.
‘Rudiger is in his prime, someone who is so energetic and angry all the time — a good angry. He bangs into people and looks at them as if to say, “You want some?”. He’s intense.
‘JT was like that. He’d dominate opponents. When he went on the pitch, it was as if he got bigger, taller, wider.’
James selected in BBC’s Team of the Week
In one of the most expected stories of the week, Reece James has been included in Garth Crooks’ BBC Team of the Week following his sensational display in our 3-0 win at Newcastle.
The right-back bagged a brace at St James’ Park with two impressive strikes, while a Jorginho penalty put the seal on the three points to ensure we remained top of the Premier League table.
Crooks was suitably impressed, as he stated in his regular weekly column on the BBC website.
‘James scored the first with his left foot and the second with his right and I can't tell which one he struck better,’ Crooks wrote.
‘They were both hit with the same power and precision. This is the second consecutive week I have selected James and done so without the slightest hesitation. The lad is playing out of his skin.
‘As for Chelsea, their best signing of the year wasn't even playing. No, I'm not talking about Romelu Lukaku, I'm talking about manager Thomas Tuchel. He has been brilliant.’
