BBC’s team of the week features Chilwell and Jorginho

BBC Sport analyst Garth Crooks has included two players from our current squad and one who is out on loan in his team of the week.

Ben Chilwell was included in the three-man defence alongside Everton’s Yerry Mina and West Ham United’s Angelo Ogbonna after contributing a goal and an assist in his impressive home debut for the Blues against Crystal Palace.

‘How well did Ben Chilwell dispatch that?’ said Crooks of Chilwell’s opening goal in our 4-0 victory over the Eagles.

‘Head down, toe down and wallop! The new Chelsea signing wasn't joking when he smashed the ball into the back of the Crystal Palace net.

‘Chilwell has a lovely left foot and used it to cut Palace to shreds.’

Crooks also included Jorginho, who calmly despatched two penalties to seal the victory.

‘His style of penalty taking is unique but very effective,’ added the former England international forward.

‘Having the ability to take your eye off the ball and watch the keeper takes skill and a lot of nerve.’

Jorginho was in a four-man midfield which included Ross Barkley, who sparkled in his first game on loan at Aston Villa, netting a goal and taking a game-high six shots in a 7-2 thumping of Liverpool.

Sarr to join Porto on loan?

Having joined Chelsea as a free agent this summer, French defender Malang Sarr looks set to move to Portuguese giants Porto on loan on transfer deadline day, Portuguese media outlet A Bola reports.

The 21-year-old French defender was signed by the Blues after leaving Ligue 1 side Nice at the end of his contract but was slated to go out on loan in order to gain experience.

While there have been reports linking him with moves to Italian side Sampdoria and French outfit Saint Etienne, Porto appear to have reached a deal with the Blues as they look for a left-sided defender to cover the potential departure of Alex Telles.

‘FC Porto are preparing to sign the French-Senegalese central defender Malang Sarr,’ states the report.

‘The France Under-21 international is left-footed and versatile, able to play both in the centre of defence and on the left side, which would cover immediately for the expected departure of Alex Telles for Manchester United.’

Cole rates Thiago Silva as Blues’ top signing

Joe Cole has told BT Sport that the free agent signing of Thiago Silva could be Chelsea’s best deal of the summer, football.london reports.

While the Blues have brought in a wealth of attacking talent including Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech, the former Stamford Bridge favourite believes the experienced Brazilian defender offers the greatest benefit to Frank Lampard’s youthful side.

‘Thiago Silva is a fantastic signing,’ said Cole.

‘One thing we all talked about with Chelsea last year was the quality of the youngsters, the energy, but there were times in the season when there was a little bit of naivety in the back four.

‘Thiago coming in, you look around Europe and there isn’t a better veteran centre-back, someone who can come in and not only perform, his job will be to help the players around him on the pitch and off the pitch by setting the tone of what winning is all about.

‘I think Thiago Silva, as soon as he settles, could be the signing of the season for Chelsea.’
